Die Urahnin der deutschen Diesellokomotiven und ihre Schwestern V80 was the first modern diesel locomotive type acquired by DB, which makes this small class of ten locomotives unusually interesting. The book describes the technical details and theirservice life very thoroughly. Most of them ended their careers in Italy. As a bonus for the readers, other contemporary designs, more or less prototypes by German industry, are also described to some detail. These include Krupps three-bogie individual axle-drive diesel-hydraulic locomotives for Algeria and Brazil (BoBoBo dh). Of special interest to Scandinavian readers is the 9-page presentation of MaK 2000 001, which was used in lengthy trials both in Norway and in Finland. 304 pages A4, German text, more than 450 well produced illustrations, hb.
