Handsome volume on the railways on the French island of Corsica, their history, spectacular routes, equipment and future. The route across the island, Bastia-Ajaccio, with a summit at 906 m, was opened metre gauge in 1888-94 and is still in operation, as is the branch to Calvi. The last section of the line along the east coast was opened in 1935 but destroyed during WWII and never reopened. The railways have been operated by a nice fleet of 0-6-2Ts, 2-6-0Ts, 0-4-4-0T Mallets and two 0-10-0Ts, diesel railcars and locomotives were introduced at an early stage.
The book is well illustrated with trains in beautiful settings, early postcards and maps. French text. 176 pages A4, cloth binding with dust jacket. Second edition, printed 2001.
