Boken ”De sista av sitt slag – Volvo 760, 740, 780, 940 & 960” är berättelsen om hur 700-serien togs fram under den andra halvan av 1970-talet och sedan utvecklades till 760, 740 och 780 på 1980-talet. Den fortsätter sedan med historien om 1990-talets 940 och 960 som de sista åren döptes om till S90 och V90. Boken bygger på en rad intervjuer med ingenjörer och formgivare som var med och tog fram modellerna. När produktionen avslutades i februari 1998 var det inte bara modellerna 940, S90 och V90 som gick i graven. Med Volvo 940 hade också den sista bakhjulsdrivna bilen från Göteborg med gjutjärnsmotor och stel bakaxel tillverkats.
”The last of Their kind – Volvo 700 & 900 Series” is the story of how the 700 Series was developed during the second half of the 1970s and then evolved into the 760, 740 and 780 in the 1980s. It then continues with the history of the 940 and 960 of the 1990s, which in their final years were renamed the S90 and V90. The book is based on a series of interviews with engineers and designers who were involved in creating the models. The language is Swedish and each chapter has summaries in English.
