The 600 mm Railway in Sēlija During the First World War

Kārlis Dambītis, Toms Altbergs, Ilze Freiberga

Construction, Goals, Effect. Latvian title: 600 mm dzelzceļš Sēlijā. From 1915, the German army built a network of 600 mm gauge railways to support the front in Southeast Latvia. Most were short-lived, but some served general purposes after the war. This is a somewhat academic study of these railways, their operation and effect. To locate them in the terrain has been a challenge. The text is Latvian, but there is a summary in English for each chapter. Many fine historical photographs and specially prepared maps. Locomotives are not dealt with. 280 pages 16x23 cm, hb.
