Goederen sporen van zee naar Zevenaar. The Betuweroute is a 160km double track freight railway between the port of Rotterdam and Zevenaar, near the German border, opened in 2007. This major project met great opposition.
The book begins with a survey of the development of goods traffic in Holland until ca 1990, followed by an account of rail services in the ports of Rotterdam. The main part describes the debate preceding the construction, the decision making progress, the actual construction including the connections with existing railways and tunnels under waterways, and finally the line in operation. It is illustrated by several maps and high quality photographs of freight traffic. Dutch text. 176 pages A4, hb.
